Bret Hart reflects on his motion capture experience for WWF WrestleMania: Arcade

In the 90s, Mortal Kombat changed the way fighting games were developed, using realistic graphics and motion capture. WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation) never missed a passing trend with its own Mortal Kombat-like experience in 1995′s WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game.
Looking back on the motion capture work he did for the game, Bret Hart stated on a recent episode of WWE This Is Awesome that he was tired of the job and stated that by the end of the entire motion capture he felt like someone hit him in the ribs.
“It was actually a really fun experience. I went to their warehouse where they had all their installations. We had to dive and jump like you do in The Invisible Man, but there was nothing. This took me a lot of time. I remember all day I felt like someone was hitting me in the ribs. But it was reflected in the quality of the game,” Hart said.
Featuring the top 10 WWE stars of 1994, WrestleMania epitomizes the era when Bret Hart was the company’s top star. As such, Hitman’s arrival coincides with the release of Coliseum’s home video, giving players the opportunity to take a close look at how the game was made, as well as tips and tricks on how to make it happen.
WrestleMania: Arcade will be the most accessible WWE game of its generation. WrestleMania has been released on PlayStation, Sega Saturn, DOS, Sega Genesis, Sega 32X, Super Nintendo and of course arcades.
WrestleMania will continue with a sequel, WWF In Your House. Released in 1996 for home platforms only (eg Sony Playstation, DOS and Sega Satun), In Your House will include more unique combat zones and special moves.
Ahmed Johnson, one of the WWE Superstars who appeared in that match, has since reflected on his experience with motion capture during the development of that match and what he learned while competing in the WWE match. Fans can read his review at this link.
