Technical Content: Virtual Reality Is the Next Generation of the Internet

AUGUST, GA (WRDW/WAGT) — If you’ve ever played a video game or ride a virtual roller coaster, wearing one of these VR headsets, you’ve entered the Metaverse.
You can play games and attend fitness classes, as well as chat and meet new people in the world of Meta’s Horizons.
For the first time, we entered the virtual world wearing Oculus glasses, went to a concert, chatted with strangers and played a few games. All of this is a metaverse.
But even if you’ve never worn any of those VR headsets, you’ve probably been immersed in the Metaverse.
“The real next-generation Internet is more about immersion,” said Brian Comiskey of the Consumer Technology Association.
He said that it has become a part of our daily life. If you’ve ever created an avatar or an emoji, you’re in the Metaverse.
The Metaverse is a digital universe. Virtual reality requires a headset to experience a purely digital experience, like in the movie Ready Player One. It showcases augmented reality where digital elements are layered on top of things in the real world.
And mixed reality, where you can see the physical world but interact with virtual things. Would you care if you didn’t play video games?
If you use Amazon or IKEA shopping tools to see what products look like in your living room, this is Metaverse. It is already being used in some beauty salons, allowing customers to try on clothes without actually trying them on.
Hannah Brown of Perfect Corp demonstrated the company’s technology at CES. Looking in the mirror, I saw a version of Hanna with earrings and makeup. In fact?
“In reality, I didn’t wear earrings or any kind of makeup. But you can see it’s very realistic,” she said.
Really. Perfect has a virtual store that you can access from your smartphone to try on make-up, clothes and different hairstyles, and even take a skin test from the comfort of your own home, through your smartphone’s camera.
“He looks at your various problems,” explains Adam Gam. “He can tell you what those problem areas are. If it’s coded with a retailer or brand, they can recommend these products to you. And you can track the effectiveness of these products over time.”
Consumers can access this information from their mobile phone or by visiting a physical store. Gam says retailers already have some of this technology.
Gradually, the Metaverse will become a place where people shop, socialize, and live at least part of the time.
“It’s not like the Metaverse is going to happen one day. It’s a process and an evolution of all these technologies that come together to provide a very engaging experience.”
So even if you think you don’t want to have anything to do with this thing called the Metaverse, if you shop, exercise, drive, and do all the things we do in real life, someday you’ll be using Metaverse. .
