Business: Brainerd’s VR Odyssey brings virtual reality fun to everyone

Virtual reality has been a subject of general admiration for many years, and although virtual reality gaming has grown in popularity in recent years, virtual reality headsets and equipment are quite expensive and can be difficult to operate. Enter Brainard’s VR Odyssey, now at the Brainard Franklin Center for the Arts, aiming to make virtual reality accessible to everyone.
VR Odyssey is described as a virtual reality hub that aims to provide people with an environment where they can enjoy virtual reality without paying high fees.
VR Odyssey offers many different virtual adventures, from intense action to quests and even more relaxing simulations. But, by far, the most popular entertainment is archery in the VR center.
“Everyone knows how to use a bow. They start the game, hold a bow in one hand, an arrow in the other, collect, pull the trigger, return [the controller] and protect the village,” explains Nick Suchik, owner and operator of VR Odyssey. “It’s really like you click on something and they feel like they’re in that experience.”
Of course, part of the fun of VR is being able to fully immerse yourself in whatever environment they want to experience.
“Even though they intellectually knew they were on the carpet in Brainard, Minnesota, they just had this cognitive shutdown, this total immersion,” Susic said. “It’s an experience that you know people have and they remember the first time they tried virtual reality and they talk about it and I’ve seen it over and over and it’s been great to see this technology flare up. ”
VR Odyssey said they hope to create more immersive experiences for customers in the near future, such as advanced flight simulators. For more information about their games and simulations, please visit their website.
Lakeland PBS understands that the media people interact with can have a significant impact on their lives. We want the six channels we broadcast, as well as our online presence, to provide people with media experiences that positively impact their lives.
